If you’re a gamer with a passion for 80’s pop culture, you won’t be able to put this book down. Can’t wait to see the movie!

I enjoyed the premise and the quest set up for this dystopian vision of the future. However, reading the main character’s research and obsession over everything related to the 1980s got boring after 10 chapters and there was still 30 more of that to go. Very little character interaction because for some stupid reason none of the characters introduced to each other realized they could work together. Nothing unique or creative, the puzzles were all pulled directly from referenced material, so no real surprises because the main character knew it all. Apparently people in the future only know how to name their avatars and ships after someone else’s character or ship from a beloved story. No character development on the villain. Of course the main character succeeds with every impossible task set before him. Disappointingly predictable. Good read if you want to be impressed with all of the obscure references of your childhood.

This book made me nostalgic in a way no other book ever has. I find myself right there with the rest of these characters rooting for them to win and the IOI to get dusted! Despite the fictional nature of the players in this book, reading about them made me feel like I was surrounded by old friends. Their love of all the things pop culture related and love of video games makes me miss some of the nerd fests I used to be a pat of. I think I’m going to call some of my old friends and see what they’re up to.
  • The best movie

Ready player one was awesome and the best movie ever
  • Drivel

The author’s juvenile understanding of human relationships and communication cause this inexorably successful novel to rapidly devolve into a masturbatory, hallow exploration of the various 80s trends that he finds so appealing. Avoid at all costs.

I was at first skeptical of this books because I had never heard of it. But I’m glad I made the purchase! The plot is amazing, the attention to 80’s culture is beyond what I could’ve imagined, and it’s really amazing.
